Knops
The Volume Button for Your Ears

One of the businesses I launched besides Richard de Jong Design, Knops, was born from my Master's thesis. Initially conceived as a new approach to hearing protection, it quickly grew into a patented revolutionary consumer product, successfully funded through crowdfunding. 

Knops is essentially a volume control for your ears, reducing environmental noise by up to -30dB with four simple steps, much like adjusting a stereo's volume knob. The real-ear attenuation curve of Knops is tuned to be almost completely flat, meaning it will not distort the sounds while reducing it. Something many ear protection devices claim, but when looking at the curve, never really achieve. 

Unlike traditional hearing protection, Knops embraces visibility and style, becoming a fashionable accessory, much like sunglasses. The company was successfully sold and our technology and design are currently being licensed. 

AirTulip Sleep
Sleep in Your Personal Clean Air Zone with AirTulip's Air-purifying Headboard

Richard de Jong Design contributed numerous developments for AirTulip with this project. From Aesthetic Design, Sound Reduction Optimization, Experimental Engineering Solutions to Design for Manufacturing and Setting-up Production. AirTulip Sleep is currently being sold online.

DJ-Mobiel
A DJ-booth on Wheels, Street Legal, Dancefloor Certified

 The DJ-Mobiel is a unique fusion of classic automotive design and cutting-edge audio technology. This project involved transforming a classic car into a fully functional DJ booth on wheels, street legal and approved for road use. The car features lightweight speakers, professional-grade amplifiers, and a high-end battery pack, allowing the DJ-Mobiel to play music for a minimum of four hours without a plug-in (delivering around 1000-1500 watts on average of sound).

In addition to its portable power, the vehicle can also be plugged in without interrupting the music, while simultaneously charging the battery pack. Beyond the DJ booth conversion, the car underwent a complete technical overhaul and necessary upgrades to ensure it operates seamlessly.

Secco
Dry your clothes within seconds

Secco Labs was born from the idea of drying clothes faster and in a more environmentally friendly way. Inspired by the needs of New York gym-goers—where sweaty clothes are often stashed wet into bags—the patented Secco solution was created to address this problem. With a team of five, we developed and patented an innovative technology capable of drying a piece of fabric in under a minute. The system also incorporates a method to disinfect during the drying process, ensuring not only rapid results but also improved hygiene.

Richard de Jong Design played a key role in the design development, focusing on User Interaction and User Experience, Ergonomics, Component Architecture, and Creating an Aesthetically Pleasing yet Functional Product.
